Gary`s Drive Inn in Owensboro

Reminds me of the burgers and food I used to get as a kid in the diner near my home. Hands down the best burger in Owensboro.

The bison burger was good but not exceptional, prices reasonable, and atmosphere was cool. Only a couple of issues. No public restrooms, drive through pickup window located in the dining area, so staff constantly walking back and forth, and no onion rings available. Overall, friendly staff and good experience.

Don't forget this local treasure... everything is good.... never messed up an order!!!

The quality of their burgers are great, it's really a shame. I loved this joint, I would eat there 3 times a week. I always ordered the same burger everytime by itself no drink or meal. The price was different every day, ranging from 3-6$. Until recently they charged me 8 and change and gave me a single instead of a double. Left a sour taste in my mouth. Burgers 4/5 when made right but never knew how much my lunch was gonna be that day. It's the inconsistency of pricing even when they recognized you but apparently forget how much a burger costs and guesstimate at time of sale.

Love their food was disappointed tho they didn't have ice cream they make the best banana shake in Owensboro

The best hamburgers in town. And the very best ice cream. If you ever eat this ice cream you will never eat ice cream anywhere else.

Great food friendly service

1st time customer... Excellent service, excellent food. I love the cook to order restaurants... Food was hot and fresh. Window sysytem they have is A+.. and I was in and out in under 10 minutes. Why Mcds is popular where you wait in a long line for cold fries and a wrong order is beyond me.. but you can count on it that I will gladly return to Gary's any day. Fantastic guys... Thank you for making my lunch experience top shelf!! ❤️❤️💯

Service was extremely friendly, the food was just moderately so-so. I was looking for a real burger on biz trip to Owensboro. Saw their sign that said #1 rated Hamburger. I was very disappointed...the beef patty was nothing special. Perhaps I should have ordered the Angus burger and it would have been better. I also had the fried mushrooms. They were your typical frozen stock....but the packaged ranch I was given was lousy. If you are looking for a "real" burger with real flavor, I would go elsewhere.

Definitely a reason they're voted best burger in town. Milkshakes and onion rings are also great. Just a small old fashioned drive through with good food and friendly service.

We order 2 burgers 2 orders of fries (1/2 orders is what we got really) and 1 drink and it came out to about $14. After we ordered in the drive thru, we waited a good 20 minutes for our food but most of that time was waiting behind someone who had been waiting there for their food before we ever pulled up and took a while looking at the menu. When we finally got our food it was passed through a window that 2 men were sitting in front of inside the dining room. I don't know if there was a table there, but the men had to stop talking so the girl could squeeze between them and pass out our food. It was very strange. The service was good, the food wasn't bad, and it was definitely hot, but the orders of fries were basically only a small handful each. I wasn't completely disappointed but wasn't impressed either.

Great food. You get what you paid for. Worth the wait. Love their chuck wagon sandwich! The meat overlaps the bun! They also have delicious shakes! I love this little place! And in my opinion, anyone who is a big fan of diners would love it too.

Little slow but good

First time at Gary's. People inside were extremely friendly and courteous. Just a little mom and pop place but the food was very good and piping hot! My wife and I will definitely be coming back to Gary's when we're in town visiting the grandkids.

At 6:44 pm, after being in an attic insulating a home with no A/C, I thought about a Gary's bacon double cheeseburger, and so, being only .6 miles away, made a call to Gary's. I was greeted with "We're closing." There was no mention of Gary's in the phone salutation, like "Hello, thanks for calling Gary's. We're closing." No. It was just "We're closing." Prior experience at Gary's was being told the grill was open, but the fryer was down for the day. It was 6:44 pm, giving 16 minutes to grill up a bacon double cheeseburger. Instead, I got "We're closed." Lol.

Really great burgers and tasty tater tots and fries

I was willing to give this place another chance after the first overly priced meal I ate there. My mistake because the second time was completely horrible. I waited about 30 minutes for a smashed chili burger and chili hot dog. The chili was not homemade and the chili dog was under cooked. They give you very little if you order sweet potato fries or Onion Rings. The shakes were decent but that was about it. I'm not sure who Gary is but the ladies that work there need to step up their game. I really wanted to like this place but the meals are very expensive and very sub standard. Also the wait was ridiculous for the lousy meal I received. Don't let the fact that this place is busy fool you, this is not good food.

Burger was okay, my husband and daughter ordered tater tots and I ordered fried green tomatoes. The tomatoes and tots were nasty, the oil they were cooked in had to have been old so we ended up throwing those away. I will not be going back.

Gary's serves honest-to-god old-fashioned diner food. Burgers, dogs, fries, shakes made with real ice cream - don't bring your vegetarian/vegan/low-fat/low-cholesterol/gluten-free friends here. But if you're looking for the taste of "the good old days", Gary's is your place.

Did budget cuts happen? I’ve been getting banana milkshakes there for years, and they’ve always been great! Now they’re bright yellow and made with banana flavoring instead of real ones? Y’all do know bananas aren’t really neon yellow, right? So disappointed

Always fresh they dont even have heat lamps.

Is our first time here in the food and service was really good I had a buffalo burger that was excellent fries and onion rings are good and my husband's grilled chicken sandwich was good

3burgers, 2 Orings, 2drinks, $27 dollars. The O rings are burnt, you can't eat them, the burger isnt very good and for $10 I can do much better somewhere else, I won't be back, they don't need to be ripping the public like that

I've lived in Owensboro for almost 15 years but I visited Gary's for the first time recently. Staff is very friendly, menu has lots of options. I can vouch that their cheeseburgers and onion rings are delicious! If you carry out, opt for at least the large drink, as the medium wasn't quite enough for my meal. I work close by so I'm sure I'll head there for lunch a lot more frequently now!

There food is so good the fried green tomatoes and pickles are the best!

I've ate here twice. The prices are not "cheap". The prices are "not too expensive" either. Just about $2 higher than I thought it would be. That being said it's quaint, has regulars and the food tasted good to me. [I bought the fries green tomatoes one time then another time I had the hamburger with fries] I will keep going there when I visit Owensboro.

Another Great Place ran by a Great Family. We sure do miss Gary though.
